RASC News Agency: Informed sources say that the United Nations Security Council held a meeting to assess the threats of ISIS in the world, including Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban group.
“SCR” media has reported that this meeting held on Friday, August 25 regarding the 17th report of this council.
Vladimir Voronkov, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations for Counter-Terrorism Affairs and Head of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office (UNOCT) and Natalya German, Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTAD) spoke in this meeting.
The Khorasan branch of the ISIS group in Afghanistan, which has been assessed by the member countries as the most serious terrorist threat in the country and the region, is one of the topics discussed in this meeting.
According to the report of the United Nations Security Council, which was published a while ago, ISIS has increased its fighting capabilities in Afghanistan and has about four to six thousand members.
The member countries of the United Nations Security Council consider the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan as a serious threat to other countries.
The members of this council are expected to emphasize the importance of preventing Afghanistan from becoming a center of terrorism and ask the Taliban group to adhere to their commitments in this regard.
Despite the fact that the Taliban claim to have destroyed ISIS in Afghanistan; however, several recent deadly attacks by this group in several provinces indicate the active presence of the Khorasan branch of ISIS in Afghanistan.
Earlier, the United Nations Security Council announced the increase in the activities of the Khorasan branch of the Islamic State group (ISIS) in Afghanistan and expressed concern that the situation in this country has become more complicated and has posed a threat to the countries of the world and the region.
In the 17th report of the Secretary General of the United Nations on the threat of ISIS to international peace and security and the fight against it, which was presented to the Security Council, it was stated that ISIS has increased its operational capabilities in Afghanistan and the number of its fighters and their family members in this country is between 4 to 6 thousand people are predicted.
In the report of the United Nations Security Council, contrary to the claim of the Taliban group, according to some of the member countries of this organization, it was written that as a result of the attacks on high-ranking officials of the Taliban group in Balkh, Badakhshan and Baghlan provinces, the morale of the ISIS group has increased and it has attracted more fighters.
