RASC: Following recent events regarding the situation of Afghanistani refugees in Pakistan, the Council of Afghanistan Refugees in this country wrote to the government of Pakistan, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and some other human rights organizations.
In this open letter, these asylum seekers said that they want the institutions related to this sector to address our problems, and Islamabad to reduce the strictures on Afghanistani refugees and immigrants.
This letter, which was signed by hundreds of Afghanistani people, was sent to human rights organizations on Thursday, July 6.
The content of this letter mostly represents the problems of Afghanistani people who were forced to leave the country and seek refuge in Pakistan after the Taliban took control of the country.
However, the Council of Afghanistani Refugees in Pakistan requested the government of that country to issue visas to these asylum seekers and also said to exempt the asylum seekers who intend to leave the country from the fine upon departure.
In this letter, the government of Pakistan is also asked to respect the rights of Afghanistani refugees according to the Declaration of Human Rights and the 1951 Geneva Convention.
This is while the United Nations High Commissioner announced that by the end of 2022; nearly 2.9 million Afghanistani have been forcibly displaced around the world.
Most of the asylum seekers who stay in Pakistan due to the fear of the Taliban group and with the aim of going to third countries are struggling with poverty, economic and mental problems.
In addition, the Pakistani police has recently increased the process of arresting Afghanistani refugees in Islamabad and other cities.
It is worth mentioning that hundreds of Afghanistani poeple, including children, women and patients, who were deported back to Afghanistan after spending some time in Pakistani prisons, and four of these patients died in prison and the prisoners do not have access to regular health services. .
