Nomads Assault Local Residents in Daykundi

RASC News Agency: Reports from Kiti district in Daykundi indicate that nomadic groups have assaulted and injured three local residents. The three individuals, residents of Takha village in Kiti district, were reportedly attacked by a group of nomads yesterday Saturday July 27, after they tried to prevent the nomads’ livestock from entering their fields.

Images released show the victims with head injuries and bloodied faces, with sources describing the injuries as serious. The victims, identified as Syed Zaman, Syed Rahman, and Syed Ali, were allegedly beaten by more than ten nomads. The nomads, who purportedly receive support from the Taliban, are reported to exhibit harsh behavior towards the local populace.

Some locals attempted to record the assault on video, but the nomads reportedly confiscated and destroyed their phones. Local Taliban officials have urged the residents to reconcile with the nomads. However, sources describe the nomads’ actions as “cruel.”

Since the Taliban’s resurgence in Afghanistan, there have been numerous reports of conflicts between nomads and local residents over land and grazing rights across various provinces. Last year, in Takhar province, nomads forcibly occupied land and property, leading to clashes with locals. The Taliban intervened on behalf of the nomads. In Takhar, several altercations and disputes have occurred between the local population and nomads, who are believed to have the support of the Taliban. The Taliban are accused of inciting nomads to claim land from Tajik and Hazara communities.

Local residents assert that the nomads receive backing from the Taliban.
