RASC: According to the United Nations report, during the last five months, more than 299,000 Afghanistani immigrants have returned to their country from Iran and Pakistan.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced in a new report that from the beginning of this year to the end of May, more than 266,000 people from Iran and nearly 34,000 people from Pakistan have returned to Afghanistan.

According to this report, 377 thousand people returned to Afghanistan in the same period in 2022 and 491 thousand people in the same period in 2021.

OCHA report indicates that 43% of returnees from Iran are men, 14% are women and 43% are children under 18 years old.

At the same time, 20% of immigrants who returned from Pakistan are men, 26% are women and 54% are children.

This is despite the fact that after the Taliban took control of the country, the rate of poverty, unemployment and illegal immigration has increased in the country, and Afghanistani people travel abroad through dangerous illegal routes and smuggling.

It should be mentioned that recently reports of harassment and arbitrary arrest of Afghanistani immigrants in Pakistan faced global reactions, and Pakistan stated that the reason for arresting these asylum seekers was that they did not have legal immigration documents.
