RASC: A number of women’s rights defenders, in response to the holding of the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting, say that countries with duality in their behavior are more interested in their own interests and their efforts have not had a satisfactory result for a positive change in the current situation of women.
According to them, the continuation of this process paints a dark perspective for Afghanistani women and the world is not honest about Afghanistani women.
Soraya Pikan, a women’s rights activist, says that before the international community, the people of Afghanistan must act to defend women’s rights; otherwise, both women and the Afghanistani society will be marginalized and forgotten. She adds: “Taliban group should be pressured so that Afghanistani women get their basic rights. Otherwise, if the process of restrictions continues, the whole women will be removed; so in this regard, serious attention is needed.
Mrs. Pikan, referring to the meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council yesterday, says that the situation of women in Afghanistan is worrying and the world should do more to address their situation.
Mahtab Jamalzada, a lawyer, says that such meetings are only for people’s pleasure and there has been no practical follow-up from the world. She adds: “They know that women grow half of the economy and they don’t want Afghanistan to grow. By holding meetings, the world shows that we are thinking about you, we are taking care of your problem. They make people happy; there are other things behind the curtain.”
