Amnesty International Asked Pakistan to Stop Detention of Afghanistani Refugees

RASC: Amnesty International demanded an immediate stop to the arbitrary detention and persecution of Afghanistani refugees.

Amnesty International has announced in a statement that Afghanistani refugees in Pakistan face waves of arbitrary arrests and the risk of deportation.

Amnesty International expressed concern about the situation of Afghanistani refugees in Pakistan in a report published on the occasion of World Refugee Day on Tuesday, June 20.

Every year, the United Nations celebrates June 20, as International Refugee Day.

After the Taliban took control of the country, waves of Afghanistani refugees traveled to Pakistan and Iran so that they could go to one of the western countries using the resettlement program and humanitarian visas.

Many of these refugees have left their country for fear of persecution by the Taliban.

Along with prolonged visa extensions by the Pakistani government, these delays make it easier to harass police and other officials to extort money from them, the Amnesty International report said.
