RASC: Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Taliban group, told the Washington Post newspaper “We want good relations with the international community, but they will never support us. So why should we listen to their demands?”
Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzadeh has not appeared in public until now. The Taliban have announced several times that the leader of this group has appeared in mosques and gatherings, but no video or photo of him has been published. Mujahid told the Washington Post: Hebatullah “wants to have better relations with the nation and the international community.”
The meeting of the Taliban leader with foreign officials has been reported only once. Based on the Reuters report, Hebatullah Akhundzadeh recently met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Sani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. Reuters wrote that one of the issues discussed by the Qatari prime minister with the Taliban leader was “the need to end the ban on women’s education and employment”.
Almost two years have passed since the Taliban took control of Kabul; so far, no country has officially recognized this group as the government of Afghanistan.
