Reduction of Iran’s Imported Electricity to Herat Province

RASC: Ismail Mashwani, one of the officials of the Taliban group’s electricity department in Herat province, has announced a decrease for electricity imported from Iran to this province since yesterday evening.

He added that Iran has reduced its electricity exports to Herat city “under the pretext of hot weather and lack of electricity” and it is not clear when this problem will be solved.

According to the officials of the Herat Electricity Department, 70% of the electricity needed by this city is supplied from Iran, which has now decreased significantly.

It should be noted that Iran’s imported electricity to Herat has decreased while the tension between Iran and the Taliban group over Helmand river water rights has increased in recent days.

Following the increase of these tensions, some Iranian media had suggested that political and economic pressures on the Taliban group to secure Iran’s water rights from the Helmand River could be effective.
