Over 1,000 Afghanistani Families Forced to Return Within 24 Hours Amid Taliban’s Neglect and Mounting Humanitarian Crisis

RASC News Agency: In a staggering development, the Taliban’s Committee for Migrant Affairs has reported that 1,356 Afghanistani families were forcibly returned to Afghanistan within the past 24 hours from Iran and Pakistan. This mass repatriation underscores the severe regional crackdown on Afghanistani migrants, while simultaneously exposing the Taliban’s utter failure to provide any meaningful support or protection for those compelled to return. According to a report released Wednesday by the Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency, the returning families entered Afghanistan through multiple border points: 174 families crossed via the Torkham border, 36 through Spin Boldak in Kandahar, 191 at the Silk Bridge crossing in Nimroz province, one family at Angoor Ada in Paktika, and 954 families through Islam Qala in Herat province.

Taliban officials claim that in the last three months alone, approximately 1.8 million Afghanistani migrants have been expelled from Iran, while Pakistan has forcibly deported over one million Afghanistani migrants since the beginning of this solar year. Yet, despite the scale of this humanitarian challenge, the Taliban regime remains shockingly indifferent to the plight of these returnees. Local sources and human rights observers report that the Taliban have failed to establish any concrete plans for the resettlement, livelihood support, or education of the thousands of families returning to an already fragile country. Reports indicate that many of these families face acute food shortages and destitution, with some heads of households desperate to attempt dangerous return journeys to neighboring countries in search of basic work and survival.

Economic experts warn that, without immediate investment in urban and rural infrastructure and the development of comprehensive social welfare and economic programs, Afghanistan is on the brink of a catastrophic escalation in poverty, homelessness, and social unrest. The Taliban’s chronic mismanagement and neglect not only exacerbate the suffering of these vulnerable populations but also risk destabilizing an already volatile region. This crisis starkly illuminates the Taliban’s broader incapacity and unwillingness to govern responsibly or to address the severe consequences of their policies. While neighboring states pursue harsh measures to expel Afghanistani migrants, the Taliban remain silent and inactive, offering neither refuge nor support. The result is a deepening humanitarian disaster that the international community can no longer ignore.
