RASC News Agency: In the face of mounting threats to Afghanistani refugees, Amnesty International has launched an urgent and far-reaching campaign, calling for an immediate suspension of forced deportations from Pakistan. The organization has strongly urged Pakistani authorities to refrain from expelling individuals who fled Afghanistan in the wake of Taliban persecution. Amnesty emphasizes that many of those at imminent risk including women, human rights activists, artists, and journalists face grave dangers should they be returned to Afghanistan. The organization warns that deportation could lead to catastrophic consequences, including arbitrary arrest, torture, and even death.
The campaign seeks to amplify the voices of Afghanistani nationals subjected to unlawful removal and aims to draw global attention to their precarious situation. It calls on the Pakistani government to uphold its human rights obligations and prioritize the protection of vulnerable populations. Through the publication of numerous personal testimonies from female advocates to media workers Amnesty has shed light on the fact that many of these refugees have spent years residing in Pakistan and now confront the harrowing prospect of expulsion.
Babu Ram Pant, Deputy Regional Director for South Asia at Amnesty International, stated that Pakistan must immediately cease its policy of forced deportations and adhere to its international commitments to human rights. He cautioned that returning these individuals to Afghanistan would expose them to life-threatening risks and deny them access to legal protections and humanitarian support. This appeal comes amid a worsening humanitarian crisis, particularly affecting those who fled during the Taliban’s resurgence. Amnesty International is calling for urgent and concrete measures to protect these individuals and to prevent any further deportations.
