RASC News Agency: The United Kingdom has condemned the Taliban’s systematic violations of human rights, particularly those targeting Afghanistani women, and has urged the international community to intensify collective pressure on the regime to repeal its draconian restrictions. During the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Friday, Eleanor Sanders, the UK’s Human Rights Ambassador to the UN, delivered a powerful speech denouncing the Taliban’s continued repression of women and girls. She strongly criticized the regime’s bans on female education and employment, warning that if the Taliban are not forced to reverse their policies, Afghanistani women will remain trapped in a life of oppression.

“The Taliban lack legitimacy and have transformed Afghanistan into a prison for its women,” Sanders asserted. She condemned the regime’s ban on women’s access to medical education and professions including nursing, midwifery, and dentistry describing these restrictions as “blatant human rights violations.” The British envoy called on the Taliban to immediately lift these restrictions, emphasizing that “a prosperous future for Afghanistan is impossible without safeguarding the rights of women and girls.” She underscored that the regime’s oppressive policies have inflicted immense suffering on Afghanistani citizens, particularly women.

Reaffirming the UK’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Afghanistani people, Sanders highlighted Britain’s allocation of £171 million in humanitarian aid to assist vulnerable communities. She also stressed the need for continued international pressure on the Taliban, urging the global community to stand firm against the regime’s systematic oppression and ensure that fundamental human rights are upheld for all Afghanistanis.
