RASC News Agency: Local sources in Ghor province report that Khairullah, a former police commander under the previous Afghanistan government, has been assassinated by the Taliban in the Taywara district. According to these sources, the former officer was killed on the morning of Saturday, February 22, in the Pai Hisar village of Taywara. A source, speaking to the media, alleged that Khairullah was executed by operatives under the command of Saifur Rahman Saber, the former Taliban intelligence chief in Taywara and the current chief of staff in Ghor. The source, who attributes the assassination directly to Taliban forces, stated that the former commander was shot dead in front of his residence. Moreover, the individual accused of carrying out the killing was swiftly relocated to an undisclosed location by Taliban-affiliated operatives.

According to the source, Khairullah had fled to Iran following the collapse of the former Afghan government. However, he was reportedly deceived by the Taliban’s general amnesty pledge and subsequently returned to Afghanistan. Upon his return, he was arrested and imprisoned by the Taliban, though he had recently been released on bail before his assassination. A spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Ghor has categorically denied any involvement of the group in the killing, instead attributing the incident to a personal vendetta. He further claimed that Taliban forces had apprehended the suspect responsible for the assassination.

Since the Taliban’s resurgence, Afghanistan has witnessed a surge in extrajudicial killings targeting former military personnel and government officials. The United Nations has also documented numerous cases of unlawful executions, arbitrary detentions, and torture of former security forces and government affiliates by the Taliban regime.
