Taliban’s Prime Minister Reportedly Resigns Amid Internal Struggles

RASC News Agency: Following the resignation of the Taliban’s Minister of Justice, sources now claim that Mullah Hassan Akhund, the group’s Prime Minister, has also submitted his resignation to Supreme Leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada. According to an investigative report by journalist Sami Yusufzai, Mullah Hassan, facing mounting pressure from Taliban ministers, has formally sent his resignation letter to Kandahar. However, Hibatullah Akhundzada has reportedly refused to accept it. Sami Yusufzai, commenting on the deepening internal fractures within the Taliban, stated that Mullah Hassan Akhund recently tendered his resignation due to escalating tensions within the leadership. However, Mullah Hibatullah dismissed the request, citing the current fragile political situation and concerns over Akhund’s health.

According to Yusufzai’s sources, “Mullah Hassan Akhund is under immense pressure from Taliban cabinet members and ministers to accommodate public grievances in order to sustain the regime’s stability.” Previously, Mullah Hassan raised similar concerns with Akhundzada, which resulted in his year-long removal from active governance. Simultaneously, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister, has also distanced himself from leadership affairs and relocated to Qatar. Several other high-ranking Taliban officials have also left the country amid growing uncertainties.

In recent weeks, internal divisions within the Taliban have reached unprecedented levels, leading to rising dissatisfaction and the defection of key figures from the regime. Just a day prior, Abdul Hakim Shari’i, the Minister of Justice, resigned, citing external interference in his work. However, Mullah Hibatullah refused to accept his resignation, and the Taliban officially denied the claims though Shari’i himself later confirmed his departure.
