Republican Congressman Urges Relocation of Eligible Afghanistani Refugees to the U.S.

RASC News Agency: Dan Crenshaw, a Republican representative from Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, has called for the immediate evacuation of eligible Afghanistani refugees to the United States. In a report published on Sunday, February 17, CBS News cited Crenshaw’s criticism of President Joe Biden’s mishandled policies, which he claims have left thousands of qualified Afghanistanis stranded both in Afghanistan and third-party countries. Crenshaw stressed that Afghanistanis who aided U.S. forces during its two-decade military campaign must be granted relocation to the United States. He further highlighted that many of these individuals were left behind during the chaotic 2021 withdrawal, vowing, “We will work with the U.S. government to facilitate their safe transfer.”

A combat veteran of both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, Crenshaw lost an eye in battle while deployed in Helmand province. His remarks come amid mounting pressure from Republican lawmakers, who have repeatedly urged the Biden administration to lift restrictions on Afghanistani refugee admissions a policy originally enforced by former President Donald Trump. Upon taking office, Trump implemented stringent economic policies against multiple nations and temporarily suspended U.S. foreign aid for 90 days, disrupting international humanitarian efforts.

While the Taliban have consistently denied receiving direct financial support from the U.S., the suspension of international funding has exacerbated Afghanistan’s economic fragility, pushing the country further into financial instability.
