RASC News Agency: Sources in Kabul report that Jamshid Mohammadi, a former journalist with Noorin TV, has been in Taliban custody for the past four months. According to these sources, Mohammadi, a well-known journalist, has been subjected to severe torture during his detention by the Taliban. However, his arrest has yet to be publicly acknowledged. A source disclosed that Mohammadi had a notable career in journalism, working with both Noorin TV and Police Radio. Around four months ago, he was arrested from his home in the Karte Parwan area of Kabul and transferred to Bagram Prison.
Mohammadi, originally from Panjshir province, had fled Afghanistan after the Taliban assumed control, seeking refuge in Iran. After some time, he returned to Afghanistan and resumed a quiet personal life until his arrest. The source further noted that after his return from Iran, Mohammadi was detained by the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior forces. He was later released upon paying a bribe. This marks Mohammadi’s second detention by the Taliban, which occurred approximately four months ago. Family members of Mohammadi have confirmed his arrest, stating that he was engaged in personal matters and had no affiliations with any group. They claim that the Taliban detained him arbitrarily and subjected him to brutal treatment.
Over the past three years, the Taliban has consistently detained and tortured journalists. The group often justifies such actions on various grounds, including accusations of opposition to the regime and failure to comply with its demands. There have also been numerous cases where individuals have been detained simply due to their origin, particularly from Panjshir.
