RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that two individuals were flogged in the provinces of Paktika and Kunduz on charges of extramarital relations and theft. In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 28, the court confirmed that one individual was flogged in the Khushmand district of Paktika for engaging in extramarital relations. According to the statement, this person was sentenced to six years in prison and 39 lashes. Additionally, the Taliban stated that another individual in the Aliabad district of Kunduz was sentenced to one year in prison and 39 lashes for theft.
Three days ago, the Taliban also flogged two individuals in the Parwan province. Despite widespread international condemnation, the Taliban has continued to carry out public punishments. It is worth noting that members of the Taliban frequently detain, imprison, or publicly humiliate many of their political, ideological, ethnic, tribal, and linguistic opponents under various charges, labeling these actions as the “enforcement of Islamic law.” However, when Taliban members themselves are arrested for theft, murder, or adultery, they are not subjected to this same “Sharia law.”
For this reason, the majority of the Afghanistani population believes that the Taliban’s interpretation of Sharia is not applied to them but rather selectively enforced against the people of Afghanistan. Numerous instances have been documented where Taliban members, including senior figures, have been caught engaging in adultery, with videos of these incidents circulating through national and international media, yet no consequences have followed.
