RASC News Agency: Residents of Panjshir province have reported a significant surge in arbitrary detentions by the Taliban in recent weeks. According to local accounts, over the past two weeks, more than six individuals have been apprehended and imprisoned on unspecified charges. Aminullah, a resident of Panjshir, remarked: “These arbitrary arrests signify the Taliban’s escalating efforts to exert control over the people of Panjshir. It also reflects their broader strategy of suppressing resistance through intimidation and fear.” He explained that the arrests frequently target former military personnel, civil society activists, journalists, and even ordinary citizens, often without any formal charges or due process.
Another resident, Qader, highlighted the disturbing pattern of midnight raids: “These detentions typically occur under the cover of darkness, leaving families in anguish and uncertainty about the fate of their loved ones. This practice further deepens the climate of fear and insecurity.” Qader expressed that such actions are counterproductive and only fuel public animosity toward the Taliban. “The Taliban believe they can achieve their objectives in Panjshir through mass arrests, but their oppressive tactics are instead sowing greater resentment and resistance among the populace.” He emphasized that the current wave of repression is part of a broader pattern of systematic oppression: “Since their return to power, the Taliban have subjected Panjshir to a relentless campaign of targeted killings, enforced disappearances, and psychological warfare aimed at silencing dissent and breaking the will of the people.”
Earlier reports have also documented the detention of individuals, including former government security personnel, in Panjshir. The majority of these arrests have been conducted without legal justification or transparency, perpetuating an atmosphere of fear and oppression in the province.
