RASC News Agency: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan has confirmed Spain’s contribution of one million euros (€1.1 million) in humanitarian aid to the country. On Thursday, January 9, OCHA issued a statement on X, revealing that the funds have been deposited into the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund. OCHA underscored its continued efforts to improve the lives of the Afghanistani people, noting that the onset of winter has further exacerbated the country’s economic crisis.
This announcement follows alarming reports from the World Food Programme (WFP), which has expressed grave concern over Afghanistan’s economic conditions. WFP stated that millions of people are in urgent need of assistance, with many families being forced to choose between food and keeping their children warm. Recently, the WFP also highlighted that it requires $718 million over the next six months to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. This comes amid a steady rise in poverty and suffering, following the Taliban’s return to power.
Despite the Taliban receiving millions of dollars in foreign aid from both Western and Eastern nations, widespread poverty continues to plague the Afghanistani people, with daily struggles intensifying. Reports have indicated that Taliban members are diverting these humanitarian funds for personal use, and to further their own ethnic and religious agendas, undermining the very people the aid was intended to assist.
