RASC News Agency: Reports from local sources indicate that individuals, identified as “unidentified gunmen in Taliban uniforms,” executed a former officer of the Ministry of Interior from the previous government in Parwan province. The sources confirmed that the officer, Abdulrahman, was killed at approximately 9:00 PM on Thursday, Dec 26, in the village of Toghbirdi, located within Charikar, the provincial capital. Eyewitness accounts state that Abdulrahman was ambushed and fatally shot by Taliban gunmen while returning home from his uncle’s residence. After the Taliban’s resurgence, Abdulrahman had taken up a civilian role as a teacher at Numan High School in Charikar.
Although the darkness of the night hindered immediate identification of the perpetrators, local residents have directly implicated members of the Taliban in the killing. They stressed that no armed groups other than the Taliban operate in the Toghbirdi region. The Taliban’s presence in Toghbirdi predates their return to power, and the area has long been a hotspot for targeted attacks against former military personnel. In a similar incident, unidentified gunmen also executed two brothers in the Monara area of Jabal al-Siraj district, Parwan province, on the same night.
Despite assurances to the international community, particularly to the United States, that they would refrain from targeting civilians, the Taliban have persistently executed former security personnel over the past three years. These killings primarily target individuals engaged in civilian life, many of whom belong to the Tajik ethnic group. Furthermore, the Taliban have detained and executed thousands of young Tajiks, accusing them of collaborating with the former government or being affiliated with the National Resistance Front and the Freedom Front. These atrocities are concentrated in Tajik-dominated regions, highlighting a systematic campaign against this ethnic group.
