Iran’s Interior Ministry: Afghanistani Migrants to Be Identified Through Biometrics and Deported

RASC News Agency: The Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs under Iran’s Ministry of Interior has announced the implementation of biometric testing to identify undocumented migrants and ensure their deportation. The bureau emphasized that no migrant will evade detection, as officials are committed to verifying identities and taking action in compliance with the law. Nader Yar Ahmadi, head of the bureau, stated during a press conference in Sari that Iran no longer has the capacity to host additional migrants. He revealed that stringent measures have been initiated to curb the entry of undocumented individuals into the country.

“We will completely seal our borders against migrants. Those already inside the country will be detained and identified using biometric methods,” he asserted. Yar Ahmadi acknowledged that a significant number of Afghanistani migrants, displaced by war and crises in their homeland, had sought refuge in Iran. While the country has provided extensive resources to assist them over the years, he noted that Iran is now unable to sustain such support. “Biometric procedures, including fingerprinting, iris scans, and facial recognition, are being conducted at border checkpoints and other strategic locations. The data gathered will help prevent these individuals from re-entering the country,” he explained.

These measures, Yar Ahmadi added, are being implemented under newly ratified legal frameworks in collaboration with Iran’s judicial system. “To address the large-scale influx of undocumented migrants, we are intensifying efforts to fortify our borders. Advanced technological methods are also under consideration to enhance these efforts further,” he emphasized.
