RASC News Agency: The European Union has announced a grant of 19.8 million euros to support Afghanistan. The EU emphasized its commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth while reducing Afghanistan’s dependence on humanitarian aid. In a statement released on Monday, December 16, the EU confirmed that the financial aid will be directed to the Aga Khan Foundation and its cultural services to implement the project titled “Economic Resilience, Women’s Empowerment, and Job Creation in Afghanistan.”
According to the statement, the Aga Khan Foundation will undertake a project valued at a total of 22 million euros, which aims to address both the urgent needs of Afghanistani communities and strengthen long-term, inclusive, and resilient economic stability. Veronika Boskovic Pouhar, the Charge d’Affaires of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan, stated, “Millions of people in Afghanistan are trapped in poverty and heavily reliant on humanitarian aid, with women disproportionately bearing this burden.”
The EU reaffirmed its ongoing support for the citizens of Afghanistan and reiterated its commitment to promoting inclusive and sustainable economic development in the country. Meanwhile, the CEO of the Aga Khan Foundation noted that the collaboration between the Foundation and the EU is focused on improving economic prosperity and supporting the livelihoods of the most vulnerable, including women and youth.
This marks yet another instance of EU assistance to Afghanistan. This announcement comes amidst reports from the World Food Programme, which states that over 15 million Afghanistani citizens urgently need humanitarian aid. The organization has expressed deep concern over the upcoming winter, which poses a significant challenge to the Afghanistani population.
