RASC News Agency: On the occasion of International Human Rights Day December 10, Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations issued a statement condemning the Taliban’s “un-Islamic and inhumane” policies. The statement described these actions as not merely violations of “Islamic and human rights” but as a “direct affront” to the Afghanistani people and the nation’s aspirations for a brighter future. “This day is a solemn reminder of the profound and unhealed scars inflicted upon the Afghanistani people by imposed wars and the ruthless oppression of despotic regimes and groups, particularly the Taliban,” the mission’s statement declared.
It warned that the Taliban’s governance is pushing Afghanistan into “poverty, perpetual dependency, and misery.” The mission called on the international community to “unequivocally denounce” the Taliban’s policies and renew their commitment to protecting the rights of Afghanistani citizens, especially women and girls. The statement also urged Afghanistani citizens to unite and work collectively toward a future marked by justice and freedom. Addressing the public, it proclaimed: “Your voices are a powerful symbol of hope for transformation and a testament to the resilience embedded within you.”
Since their return to power, the Taliban have implemented widespread restrictions, particularly targeting women, by revoking their fundamental rights and freedoms. Their policies have banned education, employment, and participation in public spaces, while also prohibiting visits to parks and salons, conversations with unrelated men, and travel without a male guardian. Despite fierce domestic and international criticism, including from Islamic nations and global organizations, the Taliban have remained steadfast in their oppressive stance. Rather than easing restrictions, they have introduced increasingly draconian laws and directives, underscoring their commitment to perpetuating these repressive policies.
