RASC News Agency: On December 10, marking International Human Rights Day, the Human Rights Activists’ Union declared that the Taliban has engaged in widespread violations of Afghanistani citizens’ rights and must be brought to international courts for prosecution. In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, the union emphasized that, over the past three years, the Taliban has systematically deprived Afghanistani citizens of their most fundamental rights.
The statement from the union reads: “The Taliban’s rule is marked by systematic human rights violations, including the complete denial of the rights of women and girls, widespread ethnic and religious discrimination, the repression of activists and journalists, public executions, and the deprivation of citizens’ most basic freedoms.” The union has called on the International Criminal Court to investigate not only the violations against women but also the broader human rights abuses perpetrated against all Afghanistani citizens.
In parallel, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) issued a statement on Human Rights Day, urging the Taliban to honor their human rights commitments. Over the past three years, Afghanistani citizens have been deprived of their basic rights, including access to education, personal freedoms, and the right to political and civil participation. Any form of protest or political activity has been ruthlessly suppressed under the Taliban’s regime.
Despite the severe political, cultural, ethnic, and religious repression imposed by the Taliban, the international community still expects reform from the group. Many countries, without addressing the dire situation of the Afghanistani people, have expressed a willingness to engage with the Taliban. The United States, as the primary backer of the group, continues to funnel $40 million to the Taliban every week.
