RASC News Agency: The European Union has condemned the attack on a Sufi shrine in Baghlan province on Thursday night November 21, stressing that “communities must be protected from violence.” The EU delegation in Kabul issued a statement on X, expressing: “We condemn the attack on civilians during worship in Baghlan province. Our deepest condolences go to the victims and their families. All communities must be secure from violence.” The attack on the shrine known as Sayed Padshah in Nahrin district of Baghlan resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals.
The Taliban have described the incident as “mysterious,” claiming that it occurred within the shrine’s prayer hall. Sources informed the media that all the victims were members of the Sufi order, engaged in religious chanting when they were targeted. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. According to a previous United Nations report, since the Taliban’s return to power, places of worship and shrines have been attacked at least five times.
In response to the assault, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has called on the Taliban to conduct a “thorough” investigation. UNAMA also urged the Taliban to prevent the recurrence of such attacks and to safeguard Afghanistani citizens. Furthermore, Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, expressed deep regret over the attack, emphasizing that religious minorities in Afghanistan continue to face a “serious threat.”
