Pakistan’s Defense Minister: Security Threats in Pakistan Originate from Afghanistan Soil

RASC News Agency: Pakistani media have reported that, amid a surge in security crises across Pakistan, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has attributed the nation’s worsening situation to Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Asif asserted that security incidents in Pakistan are rooted in Afghanistan territory, rejecting the Taliban’s denial as implausible. He also accused India of orchestrating efforts to destabilize Pakistan. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated that it has repeatedly shared evidence with the Taliban regarding the activities, operations, and persistent threats posed by terrorist groups operating against Pakistan. According to the ministry, these groups enjoy safe havens and freedom of movement within Afghanistan, raising profound concerns for Islamabad.

In recent weeks, Pakistan has endured a wave of violent attacks. The latest occurred yesterday, when an armed assault targeted a convoy of Shia Muslims in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving at least 42 dead and 20 injured. This assault is one of the deadliest incidents in Pakistan in recent years. To date, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Speaking on the issue, Khawaja Asif emphasized: “The events unfolding in Pakistan are directly tied to Afghanistan. All these attacks originate from Afghanistani soil. If the Taliban claim ignorance or deny involvement, such statements cannot be accepted as truthful. At the same time, India is overtly supporting this destabilization.”

The Pakistani government has repeatedly called on the Taliban to extradite leaders of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to Islamabad. However, the Taliban continue to deny the presence and activities of TTP militants in Afghanistan, instead attributing Pakistan’s security challenges to its own internal vulnerabilities. The escalating tensions between the two sides have significantly strained relations, with Pakistan’s diplomatic ties to the Taliban regime hanging by a thread.
