Former Canadian Soldier Detained by Taliban in Kabul

RASC News Agency: International media reports indicate that the Taliban have detained David Lavery, a former Canadian soldier, in Afghanistan. According to “CTV News”, Lavery was arrested last Monday upon his arrival at Kabul Airport, now under Taliban control. Sources, who requested anonymity, informed the network that Lavery had previously assisted in evacuating 100 individuals from Afghanistan during the chaotic withdrawal.

The exact whereabouts of the detained Canadian veteran remain unknown. Lavery had managed the private security firm “Raven Rae Consulting Services” in Kabul for several years. Sources suggest that the Taliban were fully aware of his presence and activities in the country. Global Affairs Canada has confirmed its awareness of the situation. Canadian officials have stated they are actively monitoring Lavery’s detention through consular channels. Lavery, who became known locally as “Canadian Dave,” was reportedly the only Canadian national left at Kabul Airport following the Taliban’s return to power.

Reports indicate that Lavery was entrusted with a list of more than 1,000 individuals seeking to flee to Canada. His mission was to assist in the evacuation of Afghanistani nationals with valid Canadian documentation, amidst a large crowd of people desperate to escape. Despite being a proxy force for the United States in Afghanistan, the Taliban have largely restricted cooperation with Western nationals, except for Americans. This has resulted in many foreign contractors and nationals being unable to operate in the country under the current regime.
