RASC News Agency: Local sources report the recent arrest of three former Afghanistan military personnel in Kabul, following their expulsion from Iran. According to sources on Tuesday, November 12, the individuals identified as Ghiyasuddin, Burhanuddin (both former army members), and Homayoun (a former police officer) were detained in Kabul two days after their deportation from Iran. The sources confirm that all three are ethnic Tajiks originally from Panjshir province but had been residing in Kabul. Since the recent shift in power, thousands of former Afghanistan military members, especially from the Tajik ethnic group, have fled to Iran in search of safety and work, fearing retribution and facing economic hardship.
Iran has recently intensified its deportation of undocumented Afghanistani migrants, a move that has impacted many former military personnel. Reports indicate that some of these individuals, upon return to Afghanistan, have been detained, tortured, and, in certain cases, even killed. While authorities have detained numerous former soldiers, many senior figures from prior administrations now openly collaborate with the current leadership in Kabul’s Wazir Akbar Khan area, where they hold offices, provide advisory support, and receive compensation.
Despite this, ethnic profiling remains a troubling practice. Young Tajik men with any association to the former government’s security forces risk arrest, imprisonment, or forced disappearance.
