Taliban Set to Execute Man in Paktia Tomorrow

RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s provincial governor’s office in Paktia has announced that a man convicted of murder will be publicly executed tomorrow Wednesday, November 13, in Gardez stadium, the provincial capital. According to the statement, issued on X, the execution is scheduled for 8:00 AM, and both Taliban military and civilian officials, as well as the public, are invited to attend the event. Attendees are strictly prohibited from bringing phones or recording devices to capture photos or videos of the execution.

This marks the sixth public execution carried out by the Taliban since assuming control of Afghanistan. Previous public executions have taken place in Farah, Ghazni (where two individuals were executed), Laghman, and Jowzjan, each attended by hundreds of onlookers. The United Nations and international human rights organizations have consistently condemned such acts and urged the Taliban to halt public executions and corporal punishment. Nonetheless, the Taliban claim they are adhering to “Islamic law” in enforcing these sentences.

Over the past three years, the Taliban are reported to have carried out numerous public lashings and amputations on individuals accused of crimes. They have previously stated that thousands are currently held in detention awaiting sentences, with dozens facing amputation, flogging, or execution. Afghanistani citizens have repeatedly expressed their opposition to these severe practices, calling for an immediate end to arbitrary executions and public lashings.
