RASC News Agency: The residents of Herat are voicing their deep frustrations over a mounting wave of armed robberies and theft across the province. They report that rarely does a day pass without someone losing their life over a vehicle, rickshaw, motorcycle, or mobile phone. Sources in Herat disclosed that on Thursday, October 31, a rickshaw driver fell victim to an armed robbery in the city center.
According to sources, the assailants initially hired the young driver’s rickshaw to travel from Darwaza Malek to Pul-e Hashimi. Along the way, they fatally stabbed him, leaving his body behind as they fled with the stolen vehicle. Witnesses confirmed that the robbers absconded with the three-wheeler, leaving the young man dead on the roadside.
Residents recount that attempts to report such incidents to Taliban authorities are met with hostility, with officials dismissing concerns and accusing citizens of harboring anti-Taliban sentiments or seeking to tarnish their reputation. Many feel that their lives and property are constantly under threat, with no recourse or security available.
Notably, instead of addressing escalating security concerns, Taliban officials in Herat appear consumed by ethnic favoritism, linguistic bias, and personal wealth accumulation, showing minimal regard for public appeals. Over recent months, the crime rate in Herat has surged to unprecedented levels. However, Taliban officials not only refrain from addressing these incidents but also actively attempt to obscure the true scale of insecurity from public view.
