RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that an individual in Faryab’s Dawlatabad district was publicly flogged on charges of “adultery.” According to the court’s statement, the punishment was carried out today Sunday, October 27, following a ruling by the primary court of Dawlatabad district.
The release specifies that the individual received 35 lashes and was additionally sentenced to four months of imprisonment. Previously, the Supreme Court reported the public flogging of two individuals in Kabul, marking a continuation of the Taliban’s practice of public corporal punishment since their return to power. The group has frequently resorted to such measures, executing five individuals before hundreds of onlookers and publicly lashing others accused of various offenses.
Afghanistani citizens widely condemn these actions as arbitrary, asserting that the Taliban often proceed without solid evidence, frequently relying on coerced confessions to justify such punishments. International human rights organizations regard these executions and corporal punishments as violations of both international law and fundamental human dignity, urging the Taliban to end these practices. Despite repeated appeals from these organizations, the Taliban continue to impose such sentences, disregarding international condemnation.
While the Taliban claim to be enforcing their interpretation of Islamic law, which they argue mandates these actions, many Afghanistanis accuse the group of extremism, ignoring the rights, voices, and cultural values of the Afghanistani people. Critics contend that the Taliban’s actions reveal a rigid adherence to ideology over the needs and humanity of the society they govern, perpetuating a punitive approach without accountability.
