Mawlawi Qanet Released from Taliban Detention

RASC News Agency: Sources confirm that Abdul Qadir Qanet, a prominent religious scholar and former head of the Council for the Protection of Religious and Jihadist Values, was released from Taliban detention yesterday Tuesday, October 1. These sources further report that Mawlawi Abdul Samia Ghaznawi, another religious scholar arrested alongside Qanit, was also freed on the same day.

Qanit had been detained earlier this week by Taliban intelligence in Kabul and subsequently imprisoned. However, the Taliban have not provided any explanation for his arrest. It is noteworthy that Qanit had recently appeared on national media as an expert on religious affairs, where he openly criticized the Taliban’s restrictions and prohibitions on girls’ and women’s education. This development comes amid a wave of arrests by the Taliban in the past week, during which at least five individuals, including two political analysts, two religious scholars, and a former parliamentarian, were detained.

The Taliban have repeatedly arrested, imprisoned, and tortured various individuals, especially those who dare to speak against their actions. Anyone who expresses dissent or criticism is swiftly targeted. The group, it seems, seeks to eliminate all forms of opposition within Afghanistan, suppressing even the most truthful voices that challenge their authority. To date, the Taliban have detained hundreds of individuals on various charges, imposing severe restrictions to silence any opposition. Jawid Kohistani, a political analyst recently apprehended by the Taliban, remains in their custody.
