Afghanistani Protesters in the U.S.: The International Community Must Assist in Overthrowing the Taliban Regime

RASC News Agency: Afghanistani protesters in the state of Virginia, USA, have issued a resolution on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks, calling on the international community to formally recognize the Taliban as a “terrorist group” and support the Afghanistani people in “overthrowing this regime.” The resolution declared: “Both the Afghanistani and American people are victims of terrorism. The Taliban are a terrorist organization, and their violent rule poses a direct threat to the people of Afghanistan and global security. The United States and the international community must acknowledge the Taliban as a terrorist entity. We urge governments around the world to support the Afghanistani people in dismantling this terrorist regime and holding the Taliban accountable for their ongoing crimes.”

The protesters further demanded that the U.S. and the international community immediately halt all engagement and dialogue with the Taliban, cautioning against conferring legitimacy upon them. As an alternative to diplomatic interactions with the Taliban, the resolution introduced Afghanistan’s women leaders, civil society activists, and youth leaders as potential representatives capable of guiding the nation until “free and fair elections” can be held.

The protesters also condemned the Taliban’s systematic repression of women and girls, describing it as a “flagrant violation of human rights.” They called on the world to recognize the “gender apartheid” being enforced in Afghanistan. Furthermore, the resolution highlighted that the Taliban are deliberately targeting religious minorities, labeling such acts as “a gross violation of human rights and freedom of belief.”

The resolution stressed that any decisions about Afghanistan’s present or future must be determined by the Afghanistani people through democratic elections or, at the very least, a referendum supervised by the international community. They affirmed that standing against the Taliban is synonymous with standing for humanity, justice, and human dignity, urging the global community and the United States to adopt a decisive and principled stance in this regard.

This resolution comes amid increasing restrictions imposed by the Taliban under their renewed rule, particularly on the basic rights and freedoms of Afghanistani citizens. In a recent move, under their newly implemented “Law of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice,” the Taliban have even forbidden women from speaking publicly in any setting where men are present.
