Massoud: We Will Defeat the Taliban

RASC News Agency:Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, has affirmed that the Front’s strategy for resistance is clear, and they are resolute in their commitment to defeating the Taliban and achieving victory, irrespective of the odds. In an interview with Peter Bergen of CNN, aired on Sunday, September 1, Massoud stated that the Resistance Front conducted 207 military operations across Afghanistan against the Taliban this year and currently commands a force of five thousand troops.

The leader of the Resistance Front expressed his determination that the Taliban’s reign is transient, and the people of Afghanistan will ultimately emerge victorious. Massoud asserted in this interview that the Taliban’s true victory did not occur on the battlefield; rather, it was secured at the negotiating table, through agreements brokered by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s team and implemented by the current President, Joe Biden.

Massoud remarked, “Within Afghanistan, our strategy for resistance is unambiguous. The Taliban respond only to power and force, and diplomatic engagement with this group has merely emboldened them.” He further clarified that the Resistance Front now, after three years, has established a network in nearly 20 provinces across the country, with their operations currently being unconventional and primarily covert-based.

He stated, “Nonetheless, the military wing of the National Resistance Front is firmly entrenched within Afghanistan. Our bases are within the country, and with each passing day, we are expanding our recruitment and operational capabilities.” The leader of the Resistance Front described the Taliban’s “Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” law as a “blatant display of ignorance and arrogance.”

According to Massoud, the rise of the Taliban has eradicated numerous achievements gained over the past 20 years, plunging Afghanistan into unprecedented social and political upheavals. These remarks come as Michael McCaul, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, last Friday, praised the mission of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan as honorable and announced that he would soon meet with Ahmad Massoud.

McCaul labeled the Taliban as a terrorist group and added that their resurgence has obliterated any progress made in the field of human rights.
