RASC News Agency: Local sources have reported the suicides of a 40-year-old man in Samangan and a 21-year-old youth in Nangarhar. Taliban officials in both provinces have confirmed these reports. Hashmatullah Rahmani, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s security command in Samangan, stated that a 40-year-old man had committed suicide in the province. According to Rahmani, the man, identified as Zabihullah, hanged himself in Aybak, the provincial capital, on Tuesday, August 27th, ending his life.
Zabihullah, a resident of the “Kariz Qishlaq” area in Aybak, reportedly hanged himself from a tree in the city’s First District. The Taliban spokesperson attributed the suicide to “psychological issues,” although the exact cause remains unclear. Meanwhile, in Nangarhar, local sources reported that a young man named Rohid ended his life by shooting himself in the Fourth District of Jalalabad, the provincial capital. The motivation behind his suicide is still unknown, and Taliban officials in Nangarhar have yet to comment on the incident.
This tragic news adds to a growing list of suicides across Afghanistan. According to RASC’s findings, this marks the sixth reported suicide in the past month. These findings suggest that most of these suicides are driven by poverty, unemployment, and related family issues factors that have been exacerbated under Taliban rule. Since the Taliban’s takeover, poverty and unemployment have surged, leading to increased family strife and a rising number of suicides.
Psychological disorders, lack of access to healthcare, and the mental stress caused by poverty and unemployment are also significant contributors to these tragic deaths.
