RASC News Agency: The Taliban have recently ratified a law that, in essence, will turn Afghanistan into a graveyard for its own people. This law introduces decrees that are unprecedented in the Islamic world. According to the provisions, women are officially confined to their homes, stripped of the right to work or engage in any public activity. The law, which has been published in the official gazette under No. 1452, comprises an introduction, four chapters, and 35 articles. It outlines the duties and powers of the enforcers, who are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice and the Hearing of Complaints.
This law not only imposes stringent religious restrictions on the country’s citizens, particularly women, but it also criminalizes the pursuit of rights and any protest against the Taliban’s ethnic and tribal discrimination. According to the law, anyone who disregards the orders of the Taliban’s enforcers will face imprisonment, ranging from one hour to three days in public jails, with penalties ultimately determined by the enforcers’ discretion. The law criminalizes activities such as shaving beards, certain dress codes, haircuts, the sound of women’s voices, women’s mobility, and even criticism of the Taliban’s ethnic conduct, with predefined punishments for each violation.
Since the United States and the Taliban’s domestic and regional lobbyists began negotiations with the group in Doha, Afghanistani citizens and experts have been apprehensive, fearing that the Taliban would regress Afghanistan to the Middle Ages. However, domestic, regional, and international supporters of the Taliban have repeatedly assured the public that today’s Taliban are not the same as before and have changed. Yet, over the three years of this group’s illegitimate rule, hundreds of oppressive decrees, predominantly targeting women, have been issued by the group’s leader. This newly ratified law is extraordinarily dangerous, oppressive, misogynistic, and discriminatory, threatening to turn Afghanistan into a graveyard for its living citizens.
The ratification of this law indicates that the Taliban are reestablishing their medieval and tribal laws from their first regime. It is evident that when regional countries and global powers act as the regime’s lobbyists, and the United States provides the group with millions of dollars weekly to implement its intelligence objectives in Afghanistan, the Taliban feel emboldened to issue their dangerous and inhumane decrees without fear. So far, this strategy has succeeded in regressing Afghanistan to the Middle Ages. The second phase of this strategy will commence when the Taliban’s financial and human resources are strengthened. This next phase will involve transforming Afghanistan into a safe haven for global terrorist groups on one hand and destabilizing regional countries on the other.
What is unmistakably clear at this point is that the international community has surrendered the people of Afghanistan to a terrorist group, allowing them to impose their inhumane laws on the population under the pretense of “implementing Sharia.”
