RASC News Agency: Reports from Nangarhar indicate that a member of the Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice was assassinated on the Torkham-Jalalabad highway. The Taliban member was killed by unidentified gunmen. According to sources, the gunmen ambushed the Taliban official around 5:00 AM on Thursday, August 1, in the Landi Khyber area of the Momand Dara district.
An anonymous source revealed that Mullah Amanullah, a senior member of the Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Momand Dara district, was targeted and killed by unknown assailants. Mullah Amanullah was originally from the Lal Pur district in Nangarhar province. To date, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the assassination, and the Taliban have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
It is noteworthy that the assassination of Taliban members, particularly those associated with the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, is not unprecedented. The Taliban’s morality police have been widely criticized for their harsh and abusive treatment of the youth, making them deeply unpopular. The public generally harbors resentment toward the members of the Taliban’s morality police due to their disrespectful and aggressive behavior.
The Taliban’s morality police are known for opposing the shaving of beards and uncovered heads. They have detained and tortured numerous young men for shaving their beards. There have been previous instances where members of the Taliban’s Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice have been mysteriously killed by unknown assailants. In a recent incident, on June 6 of this year, an unidentified assailant fatally stabbed a member of the Taliban’s morality police in the Kalafgan district of Nangarhar province.
