RASC News Agency: Local sources from Herat province report that Taliban forces have detained two men in Jebreel Township for raising mourning flags for Muharram. Sources informed the media that on the morning of Monday, July 8, two shopkeepers who had approached the Shia Ulama Council office to complain about torn flags were detained by Taliban members.
According to the sources, the Taliban in Herat also assaulted these shopkeepers. Additionally, the Taliban’s morality police in Jebreel Township have prohibited street vendors from selling Muharram flags and clothing. Sources added that Taliban members told the vendors they are not allowed to sell “black fabric and clothing.” Earlier, sources from Herat sent video footage to the media showing two individuals tearing down and destroying Muharram banners at night.
The Taliban have also imposed restrictions on Muharram ceremonies in other provinces. These restrictions include banning the raising of flags in cities and public places and limiting ceremonies to mosques. It is worth noting that the Taliban imposed similar restrictions on Muharram ceremonies last year and fired at mourners in several provinces.
Reports indicate that Taliban gunfire during Muharram ceremonies in various provinces, including Ghazni, resulted in several injuries and fatalities.
