RASC News Agency: According to a notice issued by the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue in Daykundi province, women are instructed to wear the “Arabic and Islamic hijab” and are prohibited from removing it in public places. The Taliban has warned women in this province that failure to comply will result in imprisonment and punishment. The notice, which has been circulated on social media, was confirmed by a local source. This source informed the media that the Taliban in Daykundi have repeatedly warned and threatened women for not adhering to their prescribed hijab.
The published notice from the Department for the Promotion of Virtue states that women must wear the “Arabic and Islamic hijab” from the moment they leave their homes until they return. “No woman has the right to remove her hijab in markets, educational centers, or public places,” the notice emphasizes. According to the warning in the notice, the Taliban’s deadline for women in Daykundi to comply ends on July 5th. The Taliban has warned that if any woman does not follow this directive, she will face “imprisonment and punishment.”
Previously, the Taliban had also asked mullahs and religious scholars in Daykundi to assist in enforcing their desired hijab on women. It is noteworthy that the Taliban has issued similar warnings in various provinces across the country. Recently, they instructed healthcare workers in Kabul to observe hijab or face reprimand.
Women in Takhar province have also received similar warnings. The group believes that the Arabic hijab is mandatory and insists that all women must wear it, hence their strong emphasis on hijab enforcement.
