RASC News Agency: Sources report that female teachers at a girls’ school in Kabul have gone on strike. A source told RASC News Agency that the female teachers at this school went on strike due to the suspension of their salaries. The source added that as a result, on Wednesday, July 3, female students from the primary grades returned home in tears.
Some of these students, in a video that has been released, questioned the Taliban, asking, “What do you want from us? Are we to remain illiterate at home?” This situation arises as the Taliban have kept girls’ schools above the sixth grade closed for over a thousand days. In recent days, a document from the Taliban’s Ministry of Education was shared with the media, indicating that the group has suspended the salaries of female teachers. It is said that this decision was made to implement a decree attributed to the Taliban leader, which reduces the salaries of female government employees to five thousand kabuli rupees.
It is worth noting that previously, female healthcare workers and doctors went on hunger strikes and protested. However, after their demonstrations, they were summoned to the Ministry of Public Health and were threatened. The Taliban reportedly told them, “This is our leader’s decree; no changes can be made to your salaries without his order.” They warned the doctors that protests are against Sharia and that women’s work is also in conflict with Islamic law. The Taliban added that women working in public health should be grateful to the Islamic Emirate.
Previously, the Taliban had stated that there would be no changes to the leader’s decree and that protests against it were prohibited.
