RASC News Agency: Abdul Latif Pedram, leader of the National Congress Party, recently asserted that the United Nations serves as a tool for major powers. In a message posted on the social media platform X on Monday, July 1, Pedram stated that the UN perceives human rights through the lens of these powerful nations.
He wrote, “Look at the state of human rights in Gaza and Afghanistan. The Deputy Secretary-General of the UN is pleased with the third Doha meeting because the benchmark for success at Doha III was the participation of the authoritarian Taliban administration, which was achieved.” Pedram contends that opposition groups and critics of the Taliban were not only excluded from the meeting but were deliberately ignored.
These comments follow the third Doha meeting, hosted by the United Nations, which included the Taliban and excluded women. This exclusion has sparked widespread reactions and protests, with critics accusing the UN of whitewashing the Taliban. During nearly three years of their rule, the Taliban have imposed increasing restrictions on the lives of citizens, particularly women and girls.
The Taliban have repeatedly been accused by human rights organizations of widespread human rights violations and failing to honor their commitments to minority rights.
