Manawi: The whitewashing of Taliban atrocities and terror troubles your conscience

RASC News Agency: Fazl Ahmad Manawi, former Minister of Justice of Afghanistan and senior member of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, addressed Roza Otenbayeva, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General in Afghanistan, asserting that the oppression and terror inflicted by the Taliban trouble your conscience. Following Roza Otenbayeva’s criticism regarding the absence of Afghanistani women at the Third Doha Conference, Manawi stated, “The whitewashing of Taliban injustices and atrocities troubles your conscience.”

On Thursday, June 27, he tweeted addressing the head of UNAMA: “This impunity and whitewashing of Taliban cruelty and atrocities will tarnish your reputation and trouble your conscience.” Roza Otenbayeva’s support has triggered widespread reactions, with many accusing her of whitewashing the Taliban’s actions. Earlier, Afghanistani women denounced her support as a betrayal of Afghanistani women’s dignity, labeling it a crime.

These women argued that this conference amounts to a pact with oppressors; a deal with those who have deprived women of their rights. Furthermore, women have been excluded from the agenda of this conference to appease the Taliban. It is noteworthy that the deliberate exclusion of women and human rights issues from the agenda of this conference has been intentional.

Moreover, this agenda was endorsed by the Taliban previously, with their consent secured after the removal of certain items. Earlier, the Taliban had insisted that women’s presence and human rights issues should not feature on the agenda of this conference.
