RASC News Agency: The United Nations has issued a statement revealing that children in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan are being used in “armed conflicts and sexual exploitation.” The statement also noted that children in the country are being put to work and deprived of humanitarian aid. The UN has called on all parties involved in the conflict in Afghanistan to protect children from exploitation.
The organization warned that children in Afghanistan are exposed to various forms of violence, threatening their lives. The statement emphasized that all parties in Afghanistan must adhere to their commitments to protect children according to international child rights laws and conventions. The UN also highlighted that access to information about the status of children has become severely restricted since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021.
The statement urged support for the promotion of children’s right to education and insisted that no child under the age of 18 should be employed. The United Nations called on Afghanistan’s religious leaders and scholars to publicly advocate for the protection of children’s rights and to prevent the sexual abuse of children.
Previously, the United Nations reported that from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022, the rights of 3,545 children in Afghanistan, ranging in age from a few months to 17 years, were “seriously violated.” According to this report, the UN documented 5,519 child killings, with most of the violations attributed to the Taliban.
