RASC News Agency: Local sources from Badakhshan report that Jumma Khan Fateh, the Taliban governor for the Darwaz district, has seized and sold private land belonging to local residents to his associates and relatives. Sources informed the media on Sunday, June 9, that this Taliban official has converted over 700 acres of agricultural land and approximately 3,000 acres of grazing land, owned by local residents in the villages of Sandak, Baleda, and Rigwarg within the Darwaz district, into residential plots.

According to the sources, after surveying the land, Jumma Khan Fateh divided it into residential plots and sold each plot for 50,000 kabuli rupees. Furthermore, a resident of Rigwarg village stated that local Taliban officials, including the governor of Badakhshan, have ignored the people’s complaints. He added that residents who protested this action, including at least 10 community elders, were beaten and imprisoned by Jumma Khan Fateh.

The source emphasized that these lands are private properties inherited from their ancestors and have been cultivated for many years. Meanwhile, officials from the Taliban’s appellate court in Badakhshan stated that they have issued an order to the Darwaz district administration to prevent the seizure of private land. However, Jumma Khan Fateh has refused to appear in court.

During their nearly three-year rule, the Taliban have declared private lands as “state property” in several provinces, leading to widespread reactions.
