RASC News Agency: The World Food Programme (WFP) has reported that 2.3 million pregnant women in Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, are afflicted by malnutrition. The WFP addressed this concern on Saturday, Feb 24, via a post on the X social media platform, emphasizing that the majority of Afghanistanis lack adequate access to food.

According to the organization, “Most Afghanistanis not only lack the means to afford nutritious food but also face insufficient food availability.” Just two days prior, the World Food Programme disclosed that only 40 percent of pregnant and lactating women, as well as 45 percent of children under five, in the Panjab district of Bamyan province, suffer from malnutrition. This situation arises as unemployment, poverty, and hunger have surged following the reduction in aid from relief agencies subsequent to the Taliban’s assumption of power in the country.

The Taliban’s imposition of constraints on women’s employment and participation in governmental and non-governmental entities, alongside their intervention in relief agencies’ operations, contribute to the exacerbation of this crisis.
