Iran Calls for Inclusive Government with All Ethnic Groups in Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: Ali Bagheri, the acting Foreign Minister of Iran, emphasized at the Regional Initiative meeting in Tehran that the Taliban, prior to seizing power, had stressed the necessity of forming a government inclusive of all ethnic groups and segments of Afghanistan society in various negotiations and meetings. He noted that positive steps had been taken in this regard.

However, according to the acting Iranian Foreign Minister, given Afghanistan’s diverse population, neighboring and regional countries hope that increased participation of Afghanistan’s various ethnic groups and communities will pave the way for greater political stability and economic development. Bagheri added that the necessity of forming an inclusive government in Afghanistan has been highlighted in the statements of regional and neighboring countries’ meetings.

These remarks come as the Taliban have consistently rejected the idea of forming an inclusive government, viewing it as an internal issue of Afghanistan. The Tehran meeting was attended by special representatives from Iran, Pakistan, Russia, and China. It is reported that no Taliban representatives were present at the meeting.
