RASC News Agency:The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has launched a temporary program to provide free eye treatment to patients in Herat. Officials from the organization report that they will examine 2,500 individuals over four days, and 250 patients have already registered for eye surgery. Fakhruddin, an official from the King Salman Foundation, stated that 17 ophthalmologists have traveled from Kabul to Herat to treat eye patients, with plans to treat dozens more in the province.
Mr. Fakhruddin commented, “We have a two-week healthcare service program here. One week was completed in Kabul, and here in Herat, we have examined 2,500 patients and registered 250 for eye surgery. Our services continue.” The doctors from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, who have traveled to Herat, noted that they have treated many patients with retinal issues, as well as those suffering from poor vision, itching, and redness of the eyes.
Meanwhile, residents of Herat, Farah, Badghis, Ghor, and Nimroz have expressed their gratitude, saying that unemployment and poor economic conditions had prevented them from treating their ailments. Residents of these provinces added that free eye treatment supports the needy and impoverished, bringing them joy. Without such programs, many people would not seek treatment due to the cost.
Shafi Ahmed, a resident of Herat, brought his elderly father to the central Red Crescent clinic for treatment. He said, “My father’s vision had deteriorated over the past three years due to cataracts. The cost of surgery was high, and we were not financially well-off. Today, my father’s eye surgery was performed for free, which is a great relief.”
Haji Abdullah, a resident of Farah province, traveled to Herat after learning about the free eye treatment program by the King Salman Foundation. He said, “A week ago, I heard that doctors from the King Salman Foundation were coming to Herat to treat eye diseases. So, I came from Farah to Herat. After an examination, they performed surgery on one of my eyes. There were no proper doctors in Farah, and I couldn’t afford treatment in Herat. Today, they performed surgery on one of my eyes for free.”
Similarly, several residents of Nimroz province who were suffering from eye diseases traveled to Herat. These Nimroz residents expressed their gratitude for the King Salman Foundation’s initiative. Jawed, a resident of Nimroz, whose two sons suffer from poor vision, said, “A week ago, an announcement was made that doctors from Saudi Arabia would be coming to treat eye problems.”
He added, “I brought my two sons, aged 7 and 10, who have low vision, for examination. There are many patients, and everyone is expressing their happiness.
