RASC News Agency: Local sources in Kabul report that Taliban members disrupted the opening ceremony of a “cafe and library” established by four women in the city. According to sources, the inauguration of the “Women’s Dream Cafe and Library” was scheduled for Wednesday, May 29th, in the Khair Khana area, part of Kabul’s 11th district.
The sources stated that the Taliban, citing the lack of a permit from the relevant district authorities, prevented the cafe and library from starting operations and disrupted the opening ceremony. Eyewitnesses report that several women were in the midst of the ceremony when two armed Taliban members entered and halted the event. These women had obtained permission from the 11th district two days prior to hold the opening ceremony. However, the Taliban members warned them to return to the district office to obtain a new permit.
This cafe was established by four women at a cost of over 10,000 kabuli rupees, intended to provide a safe recreational space for women. Despite the Taliban’s repeated claims that women are allowed to work in the private sector, their actions consistently contradict these assertions, especially regarding women’s employment.
