Husband Murders Wife in Balkh Province

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Balkh province report that a man in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, has murdered his wife. Sources informed the media on Wednesday, May 22, that the woman was killed on Sunday in the “Karte Noor Khuda” area of Mazar-i-Sharif’s eighth district.

According to these sources, the woman’s body, which had been thrown into a well after the murder, was retrieved by the Taliban two days later. The Taliban’s provincial police command in Balkh confirmed the murder and stated that her husband managed to flee the scene. Efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.

Local Taliban officials have declined to provide further details on the motive and circumstances of the murder. Since the Taliban took control of the country, there has been a significant increase in the murder of women by family members in various provinces.

These killings are primarily attributed to domestic violence, which has surged under the Taliban’s rule. With the rise in repression, no institutions remain to address violence against women.
