RASC News Agency: Residents and civil activists in Ghor province, western Afghanistan, have expressed grave concerns over the potential collapse of the Minaret of Jam due to recent floods. They state that in the past two decades, the Minaret of Jam, one of the most significant historical monuments in Ghor province, has never faced such a critical situation.
Jamshid Arefi, a civil activist in western Afghanistan, told RASC News Agency on Saturday, May 18, that the current flooding in Ghor has created a crisis and posed a new threat to the Minaret of Jam. He emphasized that even the slightest damage to the Minaret of Jam due to the floods would result in severe consequences for the Ghor community.
Arefi urged that all possible efforts be made to alleviate the concerns of the citizens of Ghor province. Meanwhile, Raban Saberi, a cultural expert in Ghor, told RASC News Agency that the Minaret of Jam is a historical monument of great significance to the people. He added that repeated flooding in Ghor has terrified the residents and brought the Minaret closer to collapse.
Saberi pointed out that the Taliban’s negligence has exacerbated the situation, leading everything towards a state of collapse. He criticized the Taliban for being careless and allowing the community to face destruction. Mohammad Naseem, a resident of Ghor, told RASC News Agency that the speed of the floods around the Minaret of Jam has significantly increased, endangering this historic structure.
He warned that if the intensity of the floods does not decrease, the collapse of this ancient minaret is inevitable. Taliban officials in Ghor have only reported the number of flood casualties to the media but have not disclosed any measures to protect this historical monument.
