RASC News Agency: Local sources from Nimroz province in southwestern Afghanistan report a rise in the number of women addicted to drugs compared to last year. A local source from Nimroz, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told RASC News Agency on Tuesday, May 14th, that the women and girls addicted to drugs are between the ages of 14 and 50.
The source indicated that these women and girls were introduced to drugs by their family members. According to the source, some of these individuals are in rehabilitation camps, while others are receiving treatment in homes and clinics. The source emphasized that this segment of society is in dire conditions and requires attention from Taliban authorities and private organizations.
Another source from Nimroz, who wished to remain anonymous, told RASC that the presence of addicted women in the province reflects broader societal issues.VHe noted that some women undergoing treatment in Nimroz’s rehabilitation centers have recovered and rejoined their families, while others remain bedridden.
The source explained that most of these women were introduced to drugs by their fathers, brothers, and husbands, causing significant harm to society. Based on the source’s statements, the Taliban authorities must urgently address the rehabilitation of these women to restore peace in their families and communities.
Jawed Ahmadi, the head of a rehabilitation camp in western Afghanistan, told RASC News Agency that over 150 addicts are under treatment in his camp, including 25 women and girls. Ahmadi added that some of these addicts are determined to quit and recover quickly, but for others, it takes months or even years to overcome their addiction.
He noted that rehabilitation camps serve as guides, but the primary responsibility lies with the patients, who must show greater determination. To date, Taliban officials have not commented on this issue. It is worth mentioning that Nimroz province in southwestern Afghanistan has one of the highest numbers of drug addicts in the country.
